Paper Wings Scholarship

Official Rules & Code of Conduct

Read the following section carefully. By applying to Paper Wings Scholarship Program you accept the rules and code of conduct described in this section.

Official Rules

NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO APPLY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM.

The Paper Wings Scholarship Program (“Scholarship Program” or “Program”) application opens February 2nd, 2022, at 00h 00min 00s  Western European Summer Time (“WEST”) and ends on March 2nd, 2022, at 23h 59min 59s WEST.

By participating, each participant (and, if a minor, his/her parent or legal guardian) agrees to abide by these Official Rules and decisions of the Paper Wings Scholarship Board (“Sponsor”), which shall be final and binding in all respects relating to the Scholarship Program.

1. SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM OVERVIEW.

The Scholarship Program was created to celebrate and reward outstanding high school students that are getting ready for college. The Scholarship Program seeks to support the college degree tuition based on their application to the program, and provide a paid summer internship during the duration of the scholarship.

The Scholarship Program is open to students that have finished high school and have been accepted into a Paper Wings Eligible Institution (see list of Eligible Institutions*), who meet all eligibility requirements stated below and that successfully complete the application form.

We aim to grant one scholarship to the best application, it may occur that no scholarships are granted, or that more than one scholarship is granted.

2. ELIGIBILITY.

The Scholarship Program is open to students (“Eligible Students” or “Students”) who meet the following eligibility requirements:

  1. Have a high school degree,

  2. Has been accepted to attend one of Paper Wings Eligible Institutions*,

  3. The college degree the student will pursue is within the following categories: engineering, computer science, mathematics or physics. 

  4. Has successfully completed the online application form,

3. HOW TO ENTER.

Step 1. Complete the online application form 

Step 2. If you are selected as a finalist, you will need to pitch the idea that you have submitted in in the application form to the jury and answer the jury's question. It will be a 3 minute pitch followed of 5 minute questions.

4. PRIZES.

College Degree Tuition. Paper Wings Scholarship Program will pay the college degree tuition of the winner student from year 1 to 3 or 1 to 5 according to the degree the student intents to pursue. The scholarship is annually renewed after an assessment of the winners progress. (See section Winner's Responsibilities) 

Paid Summer Internship. The winner of the Paper Wings Scholarship must participate on a paid full-time summer internship of 2 months at the  startup that finances the tuition fees. The internship will take place at a startup located in the same city or within proximity of the Eligible Institution.

Mentorship. The winner of the Paper Wings Scholarship will be assigned a mentor, who in most cases will be an industry expert from the startup that funds the scholarship and where the student performs the internship.  

Important Note: Paper Wings Scholarship Program doesn't support transportation and/or accommodation during the academic year and internship.

5. SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION OF WINNERS.

Within 8 business days after closing the submission of applications, 7 finalists will be announced. Finalists will have to Pitch their ideas to a panel of juries at Pitch Day, who will then choose the winner of the Paper Wings Scholarship Program. 

Notification of the winner or winners will be notified by email within 5 business days after Pitch Day.

6. DISBURSEMENT.

Students selected to receive scholarship funds (“Winners”) must indicate the Eligible Institution (“Institution”) for disbursement by Paper Wings Scholarship Program. Winner must indicate the Institution to Paper Wings Scholarship Program within 3 days after the announcement of the winner. Paper Wings Scholarship Program will never disburse scholarship funds or monies directly to Winner; it will disburse scholarship funds only to Institutions following the payment deadlines established by the institution. In cases where, prior to full disbursement, a Winner (i) changes or transfers to a new Institution, (ii) defers enrolment, or (iii) ceases attending the Institution for any reason, the Winner shall promptly notify Paper Wings Scholarship Program of such change in their enrolment at the Institution, which shall be no later than five (5) business days after such change has been notified to the applicable Institution. Upon receipt of notification, in case of (i), Paper Wings Scholarship Program shall disburse any remaining scholarship funds to the new Institution provided it is an Eligible Institution; and in case of (ii) and (iii), Winner shall have 12 months to notify Paper Wings Scholarship Program (together with a reasonable proof) of their enrolment at a new Institution or the Winner will forfeit the remainder of the scholarship.

7. VERIFICATION OF POTENTIAL WINNERS.

ALL POTENTIAL WINNERS ARE SUBJECT TO VERIFICATION BY PAPER WINGS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM, WHOSE DECISIONS ARE FINAL AND BINDING IN ALL MATTERS RELATED TO THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM. A PARTICIPANT IS NOT A WINNER OF ANY SCHOLARSHIP UNLESS AND UNTIL PARTICIPANT’S ELIGIBILITY HAS BEEN VERIFIED AND PARTICIPANT HAS BEEN NOTIFIED THAT VERIFICATION IS COMPLETE

9. WINNER'S RESPONSIBILITY.

The Paper Wings Scholarship Program is renewed annually after an assessment of the winner's performance. For the scholarship to be renewed the student must comply with the following:

  • Every year must pass all courses in the first call; this means that the student must be registered in all 60 ECTS that corresponds to the academic year and must pass to all of them,

  • Have an average grade of 15/20 or above each academic year,

  • Successfully accomplish the 2 month summer internship at the startup,

  • Deliver quarterly reports that describe the learning experience progress, which will be evaluated by the mentor at the startup.

10. SCHOLARSHIP CANCELATION.

THE SCHOLARSHIP WILL BE CANCELED IF THE STUDENT AWARDED WITH THE SCHOLARSHIP FAILS TO FULFIL ANY OF THE WINNER'S RESPONSIBILITY DUTIES LISTED IN SECTION 9.

11. THE JURY AND PROGRAM COMMITTEE

The jury and program committee will be updated during the next few weeks. Candidates are not allowed to contact any member of the Jury or Program Committee during the selection process.

14. PRIVACY AND CONFIDENTIALITY.

All the material submitted by the candidates will be kept confidential. We will follow GDPR regulations.

15. NO STRINGS ATTACHED.

Once the student graduates, the student doesn't need to pay anything in return for the scholarship. The students is free to go work to any company, there is no obligation with regards to the startup where the internships have been taking place. The Startup has no responsibility to provide any additional work after the Paper Wings Scholarship Program finishes. 

Code of Conduct

At Paper Wings we believe that "curious learners" can build the right world. To achieve this we need to be nice, honest and kind to each other; helping others without expecting anything in return. Inspired by Techstars Code of Conduct we expect the winner's of the scholarship to behave with integrity, respect each other and share their learning, in particular with those in need.
